JOSHUA
1 Now it was after the death of Moses, Yahweh’s servant. Yahweh spoke to Joshua, son of Nun, Moses’ assistant saying, 2 “Moses, my servant, is now dead. Arise, cross over this river, the Jordan, you and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them – to the sons of Israel. 3 Every place where the hollow of your foot goes I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the desert and the Lebanon – this, and as far as the great river, the Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites and to the great sea towards the sunset will be your border. 5 No man will stand themselves to your face all the days of your life. As I was with Moses I am with you. I will not fail you or abandon you. 6 Be strong and brave because you will enable these people to take the land that I promised to your ancestors. 7 Just be very strong and brave to observe and do according to all the law as Moses my servant directed you. Don’t turn from it to the right or to the left so that you will have insight in all you do. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law disappear from your speech; meditate on it day and night so that you will be careful to do everything written in it because then you shall prosper in your journey and then you will be given insight. 9 Haven’t I commanded you to be strong and brave? Do not be afraid or dismayed because Yahweh, your Godhead, is with you everywhere you go.”
10 Then Joshua commanded the people’s officials, saying, 11“You pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare food for yourselves because in three days you will cross this Jordan River to go in and seize the land that Yahweh your Godhead is giving you to take over.’” 12 But to the Reubenites, Gadites and the half-tribe of Menasseh, Joshua said, 13 “Remember the word that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you. He said, ‘Yahweh your Godhead has given you rest and also given you this land.’ 14 Your wives, your children and your possessions will stay in the land that Moses has given you beyond the Jordan, but you will cross over by fives before your brothers, all the strong warriors, and help them 15 until Yahweh has given rest to your brothers, as well as to you. As you inherited so will they the land Yahweh your Godhead has given them. Then you will return to the land you are possessing and shall inherit that which was given to you by Moses, Yahweh’s servant, beyond the Jordan towards the sunrise.” 16 And they answered Joshua saying, “All that you command us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go. 17 Just as we listened to everything from Moses, so we will listen to you. Certainly Yahweh your Godhead is with you as he was with Moses. 18 Any man that rebels against your mouth and won’t listen to all of your words with which you command us will die. But you be strong and alert!”
