13 But, brothers, I don’t want you be uninformed about those who have fallen asleep so that you won’t grieve like everyone else – those who are hopeless. 14 If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then God will also bring together with him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. 15 We tell you this by the word of the Lord: Those of us still alive, surviving until the Lord comes, will definitely not go ahead of those who are sleeping. 16 For the Lord himself, with the shout of command, the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God, will step down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, those of us who are alive and surviving will be simultaneously snatched up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and therefore will be with the Lord forever. 18 So now you should comfort each other with these words.
5 Now, brothers, you have no need for me to write to you about the times and seasons. 2 You have accurately understood already that the day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the night. 3 For while they may be saying ‘peace and security’, even as they speak destruction leaps on them like labour pains. There will be no escaping it. 4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that the day may overpower you like a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day, we are not of the night or the darkness. 6 Therefore we must not sleep like the rest do but we must watch and be clear-headed. 7 For the drowsy sleep at night and the drunkards get drunk at night, 8 but we of the day must be clear-headed in putting on the body armour of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not allocated wrath for us but that we gain salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for our sake, that whether we may be watching or asleep we should be living together with him. 11 Therefore encourage each other and build each other up one to one – the same way you already do.
