HEBREWS
1 God, who long ago in lots of parts and lots of ways spoke to the fathers through the prophets, 2 in these last days speaks to us in a son whom he appoints heir of everything, through whom he also made the ages – 3 who, being from the radiance of his glory and the true image of his essence, and sustaining both:
5 For to which of the angels has he ever said, “You are my son, today I have given you birth”?
And again: “I will become his father and he will become my son.”
6 And yet again, when he led his firstborn into the world he’s saying, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”
7 But surely to the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a fire’s flame.”
8 Yet to the son, “God, your throne lasts into the eternal age; uprightness’s rod is your kingdom’s rod. 9 You love righteousness and you hate lawlessness, so God, your God, anoints you, rather than your companions, with the oil of celebration.”
10 And, “In the beginning, Lord, you created the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands. 11 They will be getting destroyed yet you are permanent. 12 Just like outfits all these things will get old, and as if they were a scarf you will be wrapping them up and they will get changed. But you are the same and your years will never be finishing up.”
13 Yet to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I have made your enemies a footrest for your feet.”? 14 Aren’t they all actually servant spirits who are being sent to support those who are heirs of salvation?
- everything by the word coming from his power, and
- the cleansing he had through himself just made for sins,
5 For to which of the angels has he ever said, “You are my son, today I have given you birth”?
2 Therefore it’s crucial that we hold tight to the things we have heard so we don’t drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels was reliable, and every wrong step and disobedience got its rightful reward, 3 then how will we be escaping if we’re ignoring a salvation as great as this? This was first begun to be spoken of by the Lord and was drummed into us by those who heard him, 4 and validated by God with signs – both miracles and various powerful acts – distributed by the Holy Spirit in line with his will. 5 For he hasn’t put the coming world, about which we are speaking, under the control of angels. 6 Instead someone testifies somewhere saying, “What is man that you keep him in mind; the son of man that you watch out for him? 7 For you made him a little lower than angels. You crowned him with glory and honour and you placed him over the works of your hands – 8 you subjected everything under his feet.” For in the subjection of everything to him, he left nothing outside his authority. At this time, however, we don’t see everything subjected to him yet. 9 Still, though he was made a little lower than angels, we see Jesus crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death so that by God’s grace he would taste death on behalf of everyone.
10 See, it was proper for him (for whom and through whom all things exist), in leading may sons to glory, to make the pioneer of their salvation complete through sufferings. 11 For, in common, the one sanctifying and the ones being sanctified are all from One, so he is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12 saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers. In the midst of the assembly I will sing your praise.” 13 And again, “I myself will be confident in him.” And again, “Look, it’s me and the little children God has given me.” 14 Since, then, these little children have taken a share of flesh and blood, so likewise he participated in it, so that through death he should bring to nothing the one having the power of death – that is, the devil 15 (and that he should be releasing these ones – all those living in subjection to slavery because of the fear of death). 16 For surely he didn't embrace angels; instead he embraced those of the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore he needed to be made in the same form as all the brothers so that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God, in order to be a reconciling sacrifice for the sins of the people. 18 Since he himself suffered in this when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

3 Therefore, holy ones – brothers! Partakers in a heavenly calling! – take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 being faithful to the One appointing him, just like Moses also was in all of his house. 3 For this man was considered worthy of more glory than Moses, the same way that the one building a house has more honour than the actual house. 4 Indeed every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
5 Now Moses was indeed faithful in all his house, as a servant for the testimony of things yet to be spoken, 6 but Christ was faithful as a son over his house – the house that we ourselves are if we hold firmly to the boldness and the rejoicing in the hope until the fulfilment is established. 7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,
“Today, if you would listen to his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as they did in the aggravation during the day of testing in the wilderness 9 when your fathers tested me in a trial – and for forty years they saw my works! 10 Therefore I was disgusted with that generation and said, ‘Their heart is constantly being led astray and they do not know my ways.’ 11 As I swore in my anger, ‘As if they will enter into my rest!’”
12 Watch out, brothers, lest there ever be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief that departs from the living God! 13 Instead, urge each other every day – while it is still called ‘Today’ – so that not one of you may be hardened by sin’s deception. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ provided we hold the initial foundation firmly until the end. 15 As it was said, “If you would listen to his voice today, you wouldn’t harden your hearts like in the aggravation!” 16 For which ones heard and aggravated him? Was it not all those coming out of Egypt under Moses? 17 And with whom was he disgusted for forty years? Was it not the ones who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did he swear would not enter into his rest if not the defiant ones? 19 So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.

4 So we should be very wary lest, whilst the promise of entering his rest is still open, any of you should be accused of having fallen short of it. 2 See, we have had the good news brought to us just as those people did, but the word of the message doesn’t benefit those who don’t combine it with the faith of those who do listen. 3 For we who believe are entering into that rest; as he has said, “As I swore in my anger, ‘As if they will enter into my rest!’” even though God’s works were ready since the foundation of the world. 4 For somewhere he has spoken this about the seventh day, “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,” 5 but in this quote again, “As if they will enter into my rest!”
6 Since, then, it remains for some to enter into it, but the previous ones receiving the good news didn’t enter because of disobedience, 7 again a certain One ordains a day, “Today”, speaking through David after such a long time (just as has already been said), “If you would listen to his voice today, you wouldn’t harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had brought them rest, he would not have spoken afterwards about another day. 9 Therefore there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who enters into his rest then rests from his works the same way God did from his. 11 So then let’s be diligent to enter into that rest so that no one might fall because of the same type of disobedience. 12 For the Word of God is living and potent, and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating right through to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and for judgement of the thoughts and understandings of the heart. 13 Indeed, no part of creation is hidden from God, but everything is naked and has been exposed to the eyes of him to whom we will render an account.
14 Therefore, having a great high priest who has passed through the heavens – Jesus the Son of God – let us hold onto the confession. 15 For we don’t have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses – he was tested in every way just as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore, we may come with boldness to the throne of grace so that we may receive mercy, and find the grace for timely support.

For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for their sake
before God, that he may be offering both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2
He is able to empathize with those who are ignorant and wayward since
he is also bound to weakness. 3 Therefore he is obliged to offer for his
own sins just as he does for the people. 4 No one takes this honour
upon themselves; only the one who is called by God, as Aaron was. 5 So
also Christ didn’t glorify himself to be made a high priest, instead it
was the one who said to him, “You are my son. Today I have given you
birth.” 6 Likewise, elsewhere he says, “You are a priest into the Age
(according to the pattern of Melchizedek),” 7 who, in the days in his
natural body, offered both requests and intercessions with loud cries
and tears to the one able to save him out of death, and he was heard
because of his godly fear. 8 Despite being a son, he learned obedience
through the things he suffered. 9 Being perfected, then, he became the
source of the salvation of the Age to all who obey him, and was 10
announced by God as a high priest according to the pattern of
Melchizedek 11 – about whom we have much to discuss! Unfortunately it
would be a baffling explanation for you because your awareness has
become dulled. 12 By this time you ought to be teachers but you actually
need to be taught the basic principles of God’s revelations all over
again! You now need milk, not solid food. 13 For everyone taking
milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness – he is childish – 14
but solid food is for the mature, the ones who through practise
have thoroughly trained their senses to discern both good and evil. 6 Therefore we should be moving on from the basics of the Word of Christ and be brought to maturity, not re-laying the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith that rests on God, 2 of washings, and also of teachings such as the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead and the judgement of the Age – 3 and this is what we will be doing, as long as God allows it. 4 It is impossible for those once enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 having also tasted God’s good message and the powers of the coming age, 6 if they fall aside, to be restoring them into repentance again, thus re-crucifying the Son of God and publically disgracing themselves. 7 For the land that soaks up the rain that often falls on her and generates produce that is useful for those farming it receives God’s blessing. 8 But that which brings forth thorns and prickles is disqualified and about to be cursed; its destiny is to be burned.
9 Nonetheless, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you - salvation things - even though we speak like this. 10 For God is not unjust so as to be ignoring the work and loving toil which you have demonstrated in his name in your past, and ongoing, serving of the saints. 11 We yearn for each of you to be demonstrating the same diligence toward the assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you mightn’t become more lethargic but be imitators of them who, through faith and resolve, are inheriting the promises. 13 For when God was making his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater to swear by he swore by himself 14 saying, “I will most definitely bless you lavishly and multiply your descendants enormously.” 15 And so, after resolutely enduring, he came into the promise. 16 For clearly people swear by something greater than themselves, and the oath verifies it, ending any argument. 17 Similarly, God, wanting to show more generously the inalterability of his intention to the heirs of his promise, intervened with an oath. 18 This was so that by those two inalterable things (which are impossible for God to default on) we may have great encouragement – those who have fled for shelter to grab hold of the hope waiting for us! 19 This we have as an anchor for the soul, both certain and secure, entering in beyond the curtain 20 where the pioneer went in on our behalf: Jesus, made a high priest into the Age according to the pattern of Melchizedek.
